NAP Consistency might sound like a mouthful, but it’s actually quite simple. NAP stands for Name, Address, and Phone number – the trifecta of information that helps customers find and connect with your business online. Keeping these details consistent across all your online listings, directories, and social media profiles can work wonders for your local SEO game.

Understanding NAP Consistency

NAP Consistency, or Name, Address, Phone number Consistency, is a type of local citation that acts like the North Star for users and Google trying to access your business information. It’s all about ensuring that your business’s name, address, and phone number are consistent across every nook and cranny of the internet.

NAP Consistency is a core part of local SEO. When your business information is consistent across directories, social media profiles, and websites, it sends a powerful signal to search engines like Google and Bing and tells them that your business is legitimate, trustworthy, and worth showing to eager searchers looking for products or services just like yours.

Maintaining NAP Consistency

Once you’ve identified all the major local business directories where your business is not currently listed, the next step is to add them. You will also need to correct any incorrect information where your website is currently listed.

There are two ways to do this.

1. You can manually update the business information for each directory by going to their respective websites like Yellow Pages or Yelp.

  6. Synup: Offers tools for managing local listings and reviews. Pricing starts at $30/month per location.
  7. Citation Builder Pro: Provides citation building and cleanup services. Pricing varies based on needs.
  8. Local SEO Checklist: Free resource for optimizing local SEO efforts.
  9. GeoRanker: Offers tools for local SEO analysis. Pricing starts at $99/month.
  10. Citation Labs: Provides citation building and management services. Pricing varies based on scope.
  11. Advice Local: Offers tools for managing business listings and local search performance. Pricing is available upon request.
Sidenote: If you are thinking of signing up and updating or adding listings and then canceling the plan, be aware that some services remove any information they uploaded on your behalf. You’ll need to do some research and check the terms for any service you use to check what their policy is when you cancel the subscription.
 

Final Thoughts

Ensuring you have consistent NAP and other business information is a key component of a local SEO strategy for businesses of all sizes, but especially for small businesses. That said, there’s so much more to a local SEO strategy that will dovetail with NAP consistency, such as Google Business Profile (GBP) optimization.
